Hitchcock Shoots up Etchells NOODs Win Recap of 2009 NOOD in Marblehead: July 24-26, 2009 What do you do when a Rosie and a Waldo are gunning to take you down entering the last day of a close one-design regatta? Legend has it that you smoke the first race in a wire-to-wire win, and then cover your bets with a top-three showing in the last match. And that is exactly what Padanaram’s own "Local Legend" Rob Hitchcock did this past weekend at the Sperry Top-Sider NOODs at Marblehead Race Week, where he teamed with Greg Hefler and Kent Paisley to top a very competitive 18-boat Etchells fleet. Hefler/Hitchcock’s two bullets in the 5-race series outgunned one each for local silver medalists Wade Edwards and Justin Muller; the Aussie bronze medalists David Rose and David “Eddie” Irvine; and Marblehead’s fourth-place contender Mark Luckes. The Hitchcock victory followed a strong second-place outing at last weekend’s Etchells New England Championships. Edwards and Muller won an independent, overlapping 4-day Etchells regatta, outpacing Luckes and Rose/Irvine. See the complete results. |
